UNKNOWN KNOWN

As the world restarts haphazardly in the midst of the pandemic, we won’t be offering any new perspectives on where we are or where we are collectively herded to. All the best writers have weighed in more eloquently than us.

One thing for sure, as we collectively mask up (reluctantly or voluntarily) what Covid-19 does is truly unmasked how we, as a global nation treat each other, it unmasked our economic vulnerabilities, our prejudices- the good, the bad and the ugly, and how as we hunkered down in our variable state of immobility, gave us the time and space to look into ourselves and the world, and take stock at what we have in front of us.

For us at DXB, as we put our stitching machines back into motion, as we dust off our work benches, we look long and hard into our future. We have taken a hit like everybody else in this pandemic. So for our new collection for the coming Covid winter, we are calling it the Hijra collection. It is adapted from the arabic word meaning migration… transition or shifting paradigm.

It’s been a while we have been behind the desk to bring you our thoughts on what is happening at the DXB. Well, in short- a lot has sprung out and this new venture and expansion into Malaysia has been the latest.

I know, 2020 has been a really bad year so far. The ever present threat of coronavirus pandemic hangs heavily in the air, the global economy is taking a nosedive, and people are just anxious in going out and shop. Thank God there is the internet and online shopping. At the DXB, you can get handmade, high quality garments straight to the safety of your home.

The latest collaboration with DXB Tailored is Mizz Nina- the popular celebrity who hails from Malaysia and we are bringing you the aptly named Hijra collection. It tells a tale of her rediscovery of Islam through the design language for her Ramadan/Eid 2020 collection.

The garments are a mix of Abayas, two layer abayas and a selection of Kaftan cuts. All are handmade, of course, and originally designed by our new designer Shehnaz Afreen. The interplay between the colour and the tones of each garment exudes, flow, movement, change… the embodiment of the Hijra collection by Mizz Nina.

Picture this- the view of sunset on the Arabian Gulf, cool winter breeze fluttering the fabrics of the new modern range of the DxB|Tailored. Dubai Modest Fashion Week 19′ kicks off today and we, the DXB is launching our new range from the commanding view of the Arabian Sea at the Kempinski, Palm Jumeira, Dubai.

We have put so much effort into this campaign, introducing our brand further internationally and simultaneously inaugurating our modern clothing line in collaboration with @starringyouworldwide. The AM range, (initials of the Insta-power couple) displays the modern business attire with a fusion between Middle Eastern cues and Modern designs.

Come and try out the outfits, feel the premium materials and examine the detail of the stitching of our products. We have also introduced, for the first time at the DXB, Swarovski crystals to our premium Shaylas- Naturally at the DXB, hand applied.

Winter markets

Back in Europe we were used to the German markets. Russian dolls, winter candles and Christmassy ornaments from distant vendors decorated the stands as you weave along the market. Whiff of the mulled wine fills the cold winter breeze.

Down in the dxb our winters are milder. Daytime temperatures are perfect around the 25 Celsius mark. This year, we are rounding up our year end sale with the Ripe market.

We will be here in our stand every Saturdays until we ring in 2019. We’ll see you there.

Day of the Nation

Today marks the 47th year of the formation of the United Arab Emirates. Seven small states united into a juggernaut of the gulf. Day of celebrating national pride, success, openness, harmony and belonging.

UAE is also home to approximately 8 million expats who rejoice and celebrate this day as a deep appreciation for the opportunities this country, it’s leaders and its people have given us.

Without the forward thinking and ease of doing business, our small tailor won’t exist, here in our small corner of the UAE.

So here’s to UAE, it’s leaders and it’s people… here’s to endless more prosperous years to come…

Market opens…

We are collaborating with Ripe Market to bring the DxB|Tailored up close and personal to you guys!

We are opening a pop up boutique in the Police Academy Park, Umm Suqeim, Dubai. We are teaming up with Ripe Market for this event and would love to see you guys there. Come and enjoy the Sun, (Dubai winter weather is perfect), the crowd and of course, special discounts.

On this event, you can appraise our designs, examine the quality of the stitching, and also feel the quality of the material.

We will be joining the event every Saturday with the Ripe Market, in Dubai, until we ring in the New Year.

Work…

With the winter looming upon us, we at DxB are busy coming up with new product ranges and designs in line with this seasons’ colours.

We are introducing new products, designs and collaboration. We are excited about this when we visited our lab to discuss with our people. Trust us, you will love with what we have in the pipeline.

The picture above is our small but very busy workshop- Our tailors were behind the camera- giving us ideas of how to approach the new designs. This was a glimpse of what I saw through the meeting.

We are not a big company with big machineries churning out products perpetually. We make everything by hand, in small batches, because we love detail. We like to be able to personally make the products for you.

The men’s kandura sizes are pretty straight forward. At the DXB, we offer two services for the garments- the ready to wear and bespoke. For bespoke, we tailor make every garment specific to your measurements.

In general, whether you are ordering a bespoke garment or the ready to wear, the measurements below would serve you well when putting an order for your handmade garments.

Ramadan/Eid 1439

As the Ramadan/Eid season nears, we at DxB are gearing with the seasons’ new colours and design. Some pertinent updates.

I. New materials

As the mercury rises in the summer, we want to ensure our clients to have the most comfortable fabrics to suit the warmer climate. We are introducing the mix Polyester/Viscose. These mix has the feel and heft of our popular classic Polyester/Cotton but is more breathable and does not stick to the skin vs the mix cotton variety. Colours and new designs are coming up in due course so watch this space!

II. Ladies materials

We are rolling out the Nida materials in colour! These fabrics are from the premium Korean origin that is probably the best in the market. The classic black on black (details coming up soon) with embroideries and Swarovski crystals are also in the works. DxB is expanding….

III. Colours

Brighter, vivid and vibrant. That will be DxB’s vision for the summer and the festive seasons. Gastro colours like Mustard & Chilli pepper are on the menu, the not so foodie colours like baby blue and dark red are in too! Photo shoot coming up so keep checking back to the website.

Now for a bit of science.

Viscose is a semi synthetic material that is derived from regenerated cellulose. The latter is derived from various plant based pulp and passed through a series of chemical reactions that becomes the viscose material. The yarn from both materials (in this case viscose and polyester) are put in the loom. The loom subsequently weave the fabric from these two yarns according to the percentage prescribed. The desired properties of both materials are then synergised into the new hybrid fabric.
